No Borders

2024, COLLAGE, ACRYLIC ON PANEL, 12 X 12”, UNFRAMED

This piece is part of a long, quiet conversation I’ve been having with the image of the Earth. Since 2015, I keep returning to it — not as a map, but as a fragile, luminous body floating in a vast blue space.

I was deeply moved by a recent reflection from a NASA astronaut who described seeing Earth from 250 miles above the surface: no borders, no divisions — only one small, delicate home. He spoke about how our priorities become clear from that distance: first the planet, then our families and neighbors, and only after that, wealth and power. Without caring for the Earth, everything else collapses.

The small silhouetted figure reaching toward the glowing sphere is a stand-in for all of us — human, vulnerable, and longing to protect what gives us life. This work is not political in the narrow sense; it is devotional. A reminder that before anything else, we belong to this blue world together.
