Learning to Fly

2024, ACRYLIC, COLLAGE ON PANEL, 12 X 12”, UNFRAMED

This piece was made in the summer of 2024, long before I fully understood how deeply my work was about to change. Looking back now, it feels like a quiet but courageous beginning — the moment I allowed my heart to lift off.

The small airplane drifting through this open sky carries more than imagination. Both my father and my grandfather were pilots. Aviation shaped my childhood and my sense of the world. Because of my father’s career as a jet fighter pilot, we lived in countries across the globe. Adventure, movement, and the unknown were part of our daily lives.

In this work, that legacy of flight meets my own creative leap. The shifting horizons of paint and collage reflect both physical and emotional landscapes — places I have traveled, and places inside myself I am only now beginning to explore.

This painting marks the beginning of my own journey without a flight plan: trusting instinct, memory, and love to guide me forward, just as those who came before me once trusted the sky.
