BENEATH ME
2025, COLLAGE, ACRYLIC ON PANEL, 12 X 12" UNFRAMED
This collage grew out of the way we come to know one another over time. When you first meet someone, you see only the surface — but as stories are shared, you begin to glimpse the depth beneath: the hardships, the joys, the detours, and the resilience that shaped them.
The layered forms and tangled pathways in this piece suggest a cross-section of a life — roots, roads, memories, and histories all pressing against one another. Some shapes feel buried, others rise toward the surface, echoing how certain experiences quietly support us while others demand to be seen.
There is also a parallel here to my daily walks through Fort Tryon Park, where eroded paths, exposed roots, and shifting ground reveal the long story of the land beneath each step. In both people and landscapes, what lies below is as meaningful as what we see.
